If you already managed to protect a PlayStation 5 from the short-lived pre-order burst last week, congratulations. You’re either happier, faster, or smarter than most of the others, including me. After Sony’s 40-minute presentation of new and exclusive titles for the next-gen system, a brief reveal of the price points for both the drive and the digital versions of the console was released. Soon after, a press release announced that pre-orders at global retailers would open the next day. Then the wheels came off.
The smart ones (and the scalpers) out there went to various different retailer sites and started spamming (or programming) the page as often as possible until something came up. You have been rewarded. Around 8 p.m. EDT, Sony PS5 pre-orders became available and they disappeared just as quickly. Some people have even managed to get their pre-order into a virtual cart only to snap it back out again or to keep the cart itself crashing, which is definitely not what really happened to you, not at all. Even those who managed to secure a PS5 through retailers like Amazon may not even receive it on release day due to shipping complications. So that̵
This is how Sony reacted:
Let’s face it: PS5 pre-orders could have been a lot smoother. We really apologize for that.
We’ll be opening more PS5 consoles for pre-order in the next few days – retailers will provide more details.

Unfortunately, that’s the scope of their plan right now: break it, apologize, and get ready to do it again later.
Microsoft, however, has a specific plan to introduce its pre-orders for the Xbox Series X and the digital edition, the Xbox Series S. Demand will be as high as that of the PS5, especially now that the lack of Sony’s next gen console makes it all the more difficult to play titles on launch day? Or will Microsoft’s purchase of Bethesda be reason enough to put Xbox on the must-have vacation lists of gamers? We will see!
Be sure to let us know which gaming device you choose this year and whether you are lucky enough to receive one (or two or more)!
