Sony has finally announced the price and release date of the PlayStation 5, as well as the new exclusive Final Fantasy 16 and God Of War 2.

The PlayStation 5 costs £ 449.99 in the UK and will be released on November 1

9th (November 12th in North America, Asia and Australasia), although it is not yet known when pre-orders will start.

The PlayStation Digital Edition, which has no drive but is otherwise largely identical – so not the equivalent of the less powerful Xbox Series S – costs £ 359.99 and comes out the same day.

That’s the news fans have been waiting for months, and since it’s exactly the same price as the Xbox Series X, it’s way cheaper than many feared, especially since Sony has also announced a roughly equivalent Xbox Game Pass .

The PlayStation Plus collection isn’t exactly the same as Game Pass as it doesn’t include PlayStation 5 games. However, you can download a very impressive selection of PlayStation 4 games, including some of the best games of this generation, first and third party titles.

It will be available at launch and built in as a standard part of PlayStation Plus so you won’t have to pay any additional costs for it. It’s likely already a better selection of games than Game Pass thanks to Sony’s exclusive products, but whether or not it will be expanded to include next-generation titles remains to be seen.

All PlayStation Plus Collection games

God of War
Born in blood
Monster Hunter: world
Final Fantasy 15
Fallout 4
Mortal Kombat X.
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End
Ratchet & clink

Detroit: becoming human
Battlefield 1
inFamous: Second son
Batman: Arkham Knight
The last guardian
The Last of Us Remastered
Persona 5
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard

We’ll cover some of the bigger game announcements in separate articles, but in summary, Square Enix announced Final Fantasy 16 as an exclusive console (meaning the only other format will be the PC).

The long-rumored Harry Potter game Hogwarts Legacy was also announced and looked very impressive graphically, but it is a multi-format game for current and next-gen systems.

The first gameplay material of the starter game Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales looked great, as did Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Resident Evil Village, exclusive death loop for the console and the newly announced Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition at Start available digitally.

Sony also presented Oddworld: Soulstorm, Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach, and had a decently long gameplay demo for the Soulsborne remake, Demon’s Souls.

Fortnite was also confirmed as the launch title, but the final tease – and it was a tease because neither visuals nor name were shown – was a 2021 release for God Of War 2.

To update: Sony has also announced UK prices for various PlayStation 5 accessories as follows:

  • DualSense Wireless Controller (Standalone) – £ 59.99
  • PULSE 3D wireless headset with 3D audio support and dual noise-canceling microphones – £ 89.99
  • HD camera with dual 1080p lenses – £ 49.99
  • Media Remote – £ 24.99
  • DualSense charging station – £ 24.99
