Redmi Note 8T & Redmi Note 8 MIUI 12 update status

New updates will be added at the end of this story.

The original story (published August 24, 2020) follows:

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 and the Redmi Note 8T should receive the MIUI 12 update. Both devices come with Android Pie together with MIUI 11 and MIUI 10. And neither device received the Android 10 or MIUI 12 update. However, the Redmi Note 8T added the MIUI 11 towards the end of 2019.

Therefore, these two smartphones are currently running on Android Pie alongside Xiaomi’s MIUI 11 skin. We previously reported that the stable MIUI 12 update based on Android 10 may be released in July. As it turned out, that didn’t happen.

The company has already released the MIUI 12 skin and Android 10 update for many eligible phones. But as with the Note 8 and Note 8T, there are some other devices like the Redmi Note 9 Pro and Redmi Note 9S that haven’t received a stable MIUI 12 update yet.

However, Android 10 is pre-installed on these two devices. Therefore, many Redmi Note 8 and Note 8T users are curious when Xiaomi will release the Android 10 or MIUI 12 update for their device.

Technically, the MIUI 12 update for the Redmi Note 8 has been released. However, it is available as a beta version and only for Redmi Note 8 users in China. The stable update is not yet available in any region.

More recently, we have reported that this month, that is, August, Xiaomi may be releasing the stable MIUI 12 update for the Redmi Note 8 and Note 8T. However, as the month comes to an end, there are still no signs of the Android 10 or MIUI 12 update.

Additionally, a member of the devices team in the Mi community stated that it will be released as soon as the developers are done with work. Hence, users looking for an ETA will be disappointed. Here’s the full comment:

Mostly no ETA for software updates. It will be released as soon as it is ready by developers.

Even the official MIUI 12 Global ROM tracker from Xiaomi does not mention any details about the update for the Redmi Note 8 and Note 8T.

As you can see, the information area for all variants of the Redmi Note 8 and Note 8T is empty here. In addition, there is little or no information about the Android 10 update for either device. Although MIUI updates are often more exciting than Android updates on Xiaomi phones.

It is very likely that Xiaomi will bundle the two updates as one. In addition, the company has just released the stable MIUI 12 update for the Redmi Note 7 / 7S. Hence, Note 8 and Note 8T users may not have to wait too long. Since we have little or no information, our guess is as good as yours as to when the update will be released.

As usual, we will continue to monitor the situation and will release an update as soon as new details become available. In the meantime, keep an eye on our MIUI 12 update tracker and Android 10 update tracker for Xiaomi phones.
