The social media platform does not appear to be available to users in the US and parts of Europe as it reports a lot of problems sending or receiving snaps.

The outage appears to have started around 11:30 am ET and is rapidly rising to more than 47,000 reports on DownDetector.com.

All parts of the US are in trouble, while in Europe the UK and parts of the Netherlands are shown in red on the DownDetector map.

Snapchat was quick to acknowledge the problems with sharing on Twitter: “We know some Snapchatters are having problems using the app. We’ll check it out and work on a solution! ‘

Thousands flocked to DownDetector, which is monitoring issues that may arise with online platforms and services, to share the issues that arise while using the app.

Most of the complaints have been about sending snapshots, but others cannot receive them either.

DownDetector’s map shows that major cities in the U.S. are hardest hit, including New York City to the east, Minneapolis to the north, Dallas to the south, and San Francisco to the west.

Snapchat and other social media apps have become a must-have this year as much of the world has spent months in some sort of coronavirus lockdown.

The company reported an “all-time high” in activity last month, finding that the time spent making video and voice calls through this app was up more than 50 percent in late March compared to February.
