Snipers in Black Ops Cold War Alpha were intentionally overpowered to test balance

SBMM, or known as Skill Based Matchmaking, is the main topic of conversation from the Black Ops Cold War Alpha.

Fans were surprised to see how strong the SBMM will be in the Black Ops Cold War Alpha. While the first few games players played were fun, with the launch of SBMM, the next set got more and more complicated.

‘SBMM’ was hot for a few hours on Twitter in the Games category on Friday, September 18, as both major Call of Duty content creators and fans expressed their frustration.

We also shared our own thoughts on the SBMM in beta on Twitter:

There is certainly a time and place for SBMM in video games, but it’s not one of them in the occasional playlist. It takes the experience and pleasure out of so many players and forces the game to target the new player subset.

Players like Scump, Attach and Pamaj have raised concerns.

SBMM has been in Call of Duty in the past. Previously, games like Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare for SBMM were heavily criticized. However, Modern Warfare & Warzone has ushered in the general trend of advanced SBMM level in casual game playlists for gamers.

Although development teams continued to find that connection was still a priority, it’s hard not to feel the SBMM when playing the Alpha of the Black Ops Cold War.

At the time of this writing, Treyarch has not yet commented on how the matchmaking system is set up at the Alpha.
