One of the most important hardware components that can be used to determine how well a camera records images is its sensor. While companies' marketing departments typically focus on mega-pixel sensor mounting, there's more behind where innovations have been made that we think are more interesting than camera resolution.
Indeed Lately Both Sony and Prophesee (formerly known as Chronocam, a company in which Intel has invested) have announced that they are working together to develop a stacked event-based vision sensor. What does that mean? For unknowns, a stacked sensor is basically a sensor that contains multiple layers.
This means that there is a layer for collecting image data, a layer for processing this data and in some cases a layer for DRAM which (among other things) enables faster video frame rates.
With this new sensor, Sony and Prophesee claim to have created “the industry's smallest pixel size of 4.86 μm and the industry's highest HDR performance of 1
Ultimately, it is expected that this will result in higher efficiency and faster speeds. and data output with lower latency. Companies believe the use of this machine learning sensor can be used to detect rapidly moving objects in a variety of environments and conditions.
