For the most part, the networks still seem to hold up, albeit a little slower for some, and it looks like Sony wants to do their part. In a post on the PlayStation blog, Jim Ryan, President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, announced that they will slow down PlayStation download speeds in the United States.
Previously, Sony had decided to slow down download speeds in Europe, and it looks like these practices will also apply to the United States. “As of today, we will take similar action in the United States and will continue to take appropriate action to help ensure Internet stability as this unprecedented situation continues to evolve. We are grateful for the role we play in conveying a sense of community and entertainment in these very difficult times. “
Sony's decision goes in the same direction as other entertainment companies like Netflix and YouTube that reduce the quality of their video streams to reduce the bandwidth of Internet service providers.
