Specialized announces Diverge Ltd Carbon with the Campagnolo Ekar group

If you want to get your hands on the new Campagnolo Ekar gravel group, Specialized has you covered with Diverge Ltd, one of the few gravel bikes Ekar will be on when the group starts.

Based on the 2021 Specialized Diverge gravel bike launched earlier this year, Spesh pulled out all the stops for this Campagnolo spec.

Not only is the Diverge Ltd Carbon one of the few bikes currently equipped with Ekar (3T, Pinarello, Ridley and Wilier are also expected to introduce bikes), it’s also the only Specialized bike currently available with a Campagnolo groupset.

The rest of the brand includes either Shimano or SRAM groupsets, but Spesh says they have a longstanding relationship with Campagnolo, suggesting that more may be added in the future.

Ekar hits the diverge

The Specialized Diverge Ltd Carbon lives up to its name and is limited to just 100 motorcycles worldwide. It comes with a special one-off gloss finish faded from maroon to black and costs £ 6,400.

There is of course the Ekar group, where the 1 × 13-speed gearbox is delivered via the 38-tooth chainring from Campag in combination with a 9-42-tonne cassette. This provides a gear ratio below 1: 1 at the lower end, which is useful for climbing steeper slopes.

In addition to the headline-grabbing 13-speed drive, Ekar is the lightest gravel group at 2,385 g.

Other important features are the Ergopower lever with a redesigned thumb lever that makes it easier to switch from the bonnet or the latches, a clutched rear derailleur and a four-armed carbon chain set.

Future Shock 2.0

Like Specialized’s other Diverge carbon motorcycles, Diverge Ltd has Specialized’s Future Shock 2.0 suspension headset with adjustable vertical travel of 20mm and a built-in hydraulic damper.

The geometry of the new Diverge includes a longer reach with a loose head tube and a larger fork offset of 55mm.

This fits shorter stems between 80 mm on the 49 cm bike and 110 mm on the largest 58 cm and 61 cm frames for a similar cockpit layout as the previous Diverge gravel bike.

According to Specialized, this results in stability off-road while still feeling responsive and nimble on tarmac.

There is all the clearance you need whether you are riding 700c or 650b wheels (the Diverge comes with 700c wheels). There is room for 47mm 700c tires or 2.1in 650b rubber.

The Diverge Ltd is powered by Roval Terra CL carbon wheels (32 mm deep and 25 mm inner width) and 38 mm Specialized Pathfinder Pro tires without tubes.

Multi-day options for packing your bike and for adventure rides include mounts on the fork and top tube, a third set of bottle mounts under the down tube and the Specialized SWAT internal memory in the down tube for the kit. A SWAT jacket is optionally available.
