Spotify has accused Apple of anti-competitive behavior following the announcement of Apple One, a subscription bundle that combines existing services such as Apple Music, Apple TV Plus and Apple Arcade.

After Apple’s announcement on Tuesday, music streaming giant Spotify urged regulators to step in immediately, saying the bundle would harm both consumers and developers.

“Once again, Apple is using its dominant position and unfair practices to penalize competitors and deprive consumers by giving preference to its own services,” Spotify said in a statement. “We urge competition authorities to take urgent action to curb Apple’s anticompetitive behavior. If left unchecked, it will cause irreparable harm to the developer community and threaten our collective freedoms to listen, learn, create and connect . “

Apple responded cautiously in a statement to Reuters. “Customers can discover and enjoy alternatives to all Apple services,” it says. “We’re introducing Apple One because it’s great value for customers and it’s an easy way to access all of Apple’s subscription services.

“We recommend the Apple One plan, which saves you the most money with existing subscriptions. It’s perfect for those who love our services and want more for less, and especially for families. Selected services included with Apple One can be used on devices from other manufacturers. You can cancel them at any time. “

This is not the first time Spotify has accused Apple of anti-competitive behavior.

In March 2019, she submitted an official complaint to the EU, according to which Apple could gain an unfair advantage by operating the App Store while launching its own music streaming service. In an open letter at the time, Spotify CEO Daniel Ek accused Apple of “acting as both a player and an arbitrator in order to deliberately disadvantage other app developers”.

Apple responded vigorously, accusing Spotify of trying to take advantage of the App Store without contributing.

Spotify’s complaint led the EU to launch an investigation into Apple’s App Store policies in June this year, specifically examining Apple’s mandatory 15-30% commission for in-app payments.

Apple has fought several high-profile battles for this commission in the last few months, including with the “Fortnite” manufacturer Epic Games and Facebook.
