The war of words has continued since then. In a statement issued Variety Spotify said, "Any monopolist will claim that they did not do anything wrong" and that Apple's answer was therefore "completely in line" with their expectations.
Any monopolist will suggest that he has done nothing wrong and will argue that he has the best interests of competitors and consumers in his heart. In this way, Apple's response to our complaint to the European Commission is not new and fully in line with our expectations.
We filed our complaint because Apple's actions affect competition and consumers, and are clearly in violation of the law. This is reflected in Apple's belief that Spotify's users on iOS are Apple customers rather than Spotify customers, highlighting Apple's problem. We respect the process that the European Commission must now undertake to carry out its review.
