Spotify wants to track its users' location to curb subscription fraud: Report Technology News, Firstpost

Spotify wants to know if users of his Premium Family Subscription program are abusing them by hiding their location data.

The plan costs $ 15 a month for up to six people, but the condition requires that all six live at the same address. According to Cnet Spotify is concerned about people abusing this plan to pay only $ 2.50 for its services. Reuters

Last month, Spotify updated its terms and encouraged Premium Family subscribers to provide location data from time to time to ensure all users in the plan belong to the same family. The company emphasized that the data is not stored for internal purposes.

Last week, Spotify acquired SoundBetter, the music production market, without revealing the terms of the deal. SoundBetter will be part of the Spotify for Artists feature that provides insights, profile management and promotion tools to artists and their teams.

SoundBetter's platform lets you hire musicians, sound engineers, producers and songwriters. The company was founded in 201

2 and has registered over 180,000 artists in its network.

Spotify's monthly active users, including the ad-supported free version, rose 29 percent to 232 million in the second quarter.
