Tata Motors is preparing to launch the upcoming premium hatchback in India, the Altroz. The Indian car manufacturer has already confirmed the market launch of the Altroz on January 22, which will also be presented at the Auto Expo 2020. The Altroz was recently awarded 5 stars for adult safety in global NCAP crash tests, making it the second vehicle in Tata Motors' portfolio. Th The Altroz is Tata's first vehicle based on the brand new ALFA (Agile Light Flexible Advanced) platform. This is a new modular architecture and one of the two platforms on which all future Tata Motors products will be based. According to Tata, this new platform is scalable and has been designed to adapt to different body styles such as hatchbacks, sedans, MPVs and even the compact SUV. Things like the wheelbase, the track, etc. can be changed and they are designed to be light but stiff. Tata claims they used modern technology and an energy absorbing structure for enhanced security. This ALFA platform is versatile and also offers plenty of space for luggage. It has a flat bottom to maximize legroom. It can support multiple drive trains and can also hybridize and electrify.
The Tata Altroz is equipped with a 3-cylinder naturally aspirated engine with 86 HP and 113 Nm torque and a 1.5-liter diesel with 90 HP and 200 Nm of torque. The drive train is offered with two city and economy driving modes. Both the petrol and diesel engine are equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission.
