The $ 299 Oculus Quest 2 VR headset ships today

The Oculus Quest 2, Facebook’s new virtual reality headset, shipped today. The Quest 2 is a cheaper, redesigned version of the original 2019 Quest. It has the same stand-alone design, but with a new chipset and a huge improvement in the screen resolution and battery life of the controller. And it starts at $ 299 for the base 64GB model and $ 399 for a 256GB version, a drop of $ 100 from the original Quest.

Quest 2 pre-orders have been open since September and are available through Oculus’ own website and stores like Best Buy and Walmart. For a full list of retailers, see the Oculus announcement post. It has been difficult to purchase an original Quest over the past year due to ongoing supply issues, but the Quest 2 still appears to be widely available.

As we wrote in September, the Quest 2 improves some of the Quest̵

7;s biggest flaws, particularly its weight and balance issues, as long as you pay the extra $ 49 for an alternative head harness. Oculus has also expanded its library since Quest launched and a list of upcoming games that are promised for later this year. The only possible catch is that you need a Facebook account – not just a separate Oculus account – to use it.

The Quest 2 replaces the original Quest and will be Facebook’s only headset from next year as the connected Rift S will be discontinued in the spring. The product still has some high-end competition, including the Valve Index and the upcoming HP Reverb G2. However, if you’re looking for a relatively cheap VR that doesn’t require a PC, the Quest is in a unique position – and now it’s on sale.
