The future of Google’s corporate communications services is tight integration with Gmail. The standalone Meet app, which Google is now redesigning to look like the recently added Gmail tab, is always needed.
We’re updating the user interface of the Google Meet mobile apps for Android and iOS. The new mobile user interface looks just like the meeting experience in the Gmail app.
Google Meet will open instantly to your front-facing camera feed today. A lower sheet contains buttons for “New Meeting” and “Meeting Code”. If you slide up, you can view scheduled video calls in the calendar.
This redesign of Google Meet will remove the live preview for an instant “My Meetings”
Jumping to a camera view immediately was always a bit irritating, and this helps to unify the experience. It’s also easier for Google to keep a design. Some companies may not use Gmail, but they want to use Google Meet for video conferencing. A standalone application is required for these users.
This revision is currently rolling out on iOS (version 45+) and Android will follow suit. The redesigned Google Meet is available to all G Suite and personal accounts.
