For environmental reasons, Apple will not include a charger or earphones with the iPhone 12. Apple said it will be able to significantly reduce carbon emissions by not having to manufacture the accessories at all. It also reduces the size of the shipping box for every iPhone sold.
According to Apple, this will save 2 million tons of carbon annually.
According to Apple Vice President Lisa Jackson, there are already more than 2 billion power supplies worldwide. Hence, continuing to package them with the iPhone was wasteful. The company also said more and more customers are switching to wireless charging methods.
The iPhone 12 box still has the USB-C to Lightning charging cable, but the EarPod earbuds and power adapter do not. These accessories are only sold separately.
This move will have environmental benefits, but the company will criticize customers who are making little money.
