Qualcomm filed a lawsuit in 2017 for the issue. The patents refer to the fact that phones can establish a fast connection to the Internet after being switched on. Battery efficiency and graphics processing; and a traffic management feature that allows apps to download data faster.
According to CNET Apple argued that an engineer named Arjuna Siva had made significant contributions to boot-up technology and should have been working for the company named in that patent. However, Siva (now a Google employee) eventually decided not to testify at the San Diego hearing, and the jury suggested Apple.
Apple also alleged that the lawsuit was an act of retaliation for Qualcomm for Apple, which added Intel Another chip maker in 201
The verdict came before a major lawsuit between the two companies for royalty payments. A trial in this case is scheduled for next month, also in San Diego, with billions of dollars at stake. The result of another trial against the parties, which took place in January, is still pending. Apple, Intel and the Federal Trade Commission have accused Qualcomm of having a monopoly on modems in cell phones.
The dispute between Qualcomm and Apple has also appeared in other countries. Qualcomm won an injunction in December against Apple in Germany, which banned the sale of some older iPhones in the country. Apple has later started selling iPhone 7 and iPhone 8 in Germany after exchanging Intel modems for Qualcomms.
