At the LG event at the Mobile World Congress, LG announced three new smartphones as well as a fancy dual-screen accessory. LG presented the V50 ThinQ 5G together with the G8 ThinQ and the G8s ThinQ at its event. Details on prices and availability are not fixed yet.
LG V50 ThinQ 5G
As the name so aptly describes, LG's focus (like any other smartphone manufacturer from MWC) is on the 5G with the V50. This name of the phone has as much as the "5G" mark!
The 5G experience of the V50 ThinQ 5G has not yet been achieved, and Qualcomm's Snapdragon 855 comes with an embedded X50 modem.
The V50 ThinQ is similar to the previous LG G7 Plus ThinQ launched in India last year. It has a 6.4-inch QHD + OLED FullVision display and has the usual notch. The score hides not one, but two selfie cameras with an 8-megapixel sensor, a standard lens and a 5-megapixel sensor, which are paired with a wide-angle lens, as their successor to the V40 ThinQ.
On the back, you can get information about a 12 MP (1: 1.5) standard / wide, 12 MP (1: 2.4) telephoto lens and a 16 MP (1: 1.9) ultra-wide lens. Camera that agrees pretty much with her successor.
LG could not figure out the one in-display fingerprint reader, so it did with the standard (reliable) scanner on the back and a simpler (not so safe reading) feature for the face unlock available with the front selfie camera ,
Turning On the LG V50 ThinQ 5G's "5G Experience" is a 4,000 mAh battery.
Dual Screen Accessories
And finally we come to the cool part. It is the accessory for two screens.
It's basically a case that connects the V50 ThinQ 5G to a 6.2-inch FHD + OLED display via the special pogo pins on the back of the smartphone.
The dual-screen accessory essentially makes your standard V50 flagship a foldable smartphone (not a tablet like "foldable"), which LG says will help you improve your multitasking experience.
Apart from watching a movie on the screen and surfing the Internet on the second screen, LG also allows you to use the second display as a virtual controller during the game, which appeals to mobile gaming enthusiasts.
LG G8 ThinQ
Also announced by LG, is the successor of the G7 ThinQ, the G8 ThinQ, which is housed in a 6.1-inch QHD + display. The handset is powered by a Snapdragon 855 SoC with 6 GB of RAM and a 3,500 mAh battery. The G8 also has a triple camera setup like the V50 with a 12 MP wide, 12 MP telephoto lens and a 16 MP ultra wide camera.
LG G8 ThinQ
The LG G8s ThinQ features a 6.2-inch OLED FHD + display with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 with 6GB of RAM. Apart from the slightly larger display size, the G8s gets a slightly smaller 13-MP ultra-wide camera, while the rest remains the same.
A special feature of the new G8 flagships is the placement of a ToF sensor (Time-of-Flight). This now adds a new "Hand ID" function. The hand ID reads the thickness of your palm and scans your veins to unlock the phone. The same 3D camera can also be used for a safer face unlock.
