Earlier last week, we reported that Ubisoft’s brand new fantasy RPG had debuted under the brand new title Immortals: Fenyx Rising. We even have to play it! Now, some unexpected details have surfaced that explain why the game has undergone such a sudden transformation, and apparently we are to blame for Monster Energy.
According to Hoeg Law on YouTube, Ubisoft’s original application for the Gods and Monsters brand name has been challenged by American beverage giant Monster Energy. In that bizarre suit, Monster Energy stated that there would be confusion about the brand due to Monster Energy’s relationship with other companies in the video game world, including esports sponsorship, the Monster Energy Supercross series, and of course their infamous product placement in Hideo Kojima̵
If you want to know more and learn a thing or two about commercial law along the way, you can watch Hoeg Law’s explanatory video here:
In Hoeg’s view, Ubisoft could have taken the W home with them in court, but instead of wasting the time and money required in this type of legal process, the developer decided to just change the name of the game and go on instead focus on a smooth start.
Immortals Fenyx Rising release date is December 3rd, 2020. Available on Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Epic Games Store, Uplay and Stadia. You can see our early access preview here!
