Cycles! Boards! Ski! Wingsuits! More!
Ubisoft has unveiled Riders Republic, a “massively multiplayer outdoor extreme sports game” and a kind of spiritual successor to its underrated winter sports affair, Steep.
As in this game, Riders Republic focuses on extremely athletic action in a wide open world, while Steep has been limited to snow-capped mountains and other frosty areas, Ubisoft’s recent endeavors offer a wide range of terrain.
The world of Riders Republic is made up of seven different US national parks ̵
The resulting map offers a varied mix of terrain, green forest trails, cliffs, dry desert areas and many snow-capped mountains, all of which, at least according to the announcement material, are combined into a wonderfully rendered whole.
Here, players can go snowboarding, cycling, skiing and wing suit action (both vanilla and jet propelled). While both solo and co-op games are supported, Ubisoft is pushing multiplayer competition on a large scale – including races with 50+ players and 6×6 PvP arenas – as the main focus.
Events range from traditional challenges to more insane Offers, whereby the preview trailer unfortunately opts for a tone that feels more than a little forced.
Riders Republic is coming to PC, PS4 and Xbox One and will be “optimized for the next generation” for Xbox Series X / S and PlayStation 5. It will be released on February 25th next year.
