Top Prime Day headphones deals still available: AirPods Pro for $ 199, $ 52 for Sony earbuds

This story is part of Amazon Prime Day, CNET’s guide to everything you need to know and how to make sure you are getting the best deal.

Prime Day 2020 may be over, but there are still some Prime Day offers that you can take advantage ofand a couple of Walmart “Big Save” deals too. That means you can still find great bargains on some of your favorite headphones, including Apple’s top-rated wireless noise-canceling headphones and Sony̵

7;s highly rated noise-canceling earbuds WF-1000XM3.

Note that pricing and availability were correct at the time of publication but may vary.

New iPhones were unveiled on Tuesday, which for the first time come without wired headphones. Meanwhile, Apple’s current premium wireless noise-canceling headphones are selling again for $ 199. That’s still expensive, but it costs $ 50 less than the Apple Store and $ 20 less than the usual Amazon. Read our Apple AirPods Pro review.

The WF-1000XM3 earbud list for $ 230. They briefly fell to $ 170 earlier this year, but at $ 178 they’re still the best-sounding wireless earbuds in this price range and have active noise-canceling technology to help reduce ambient noise.

The only downside is that the WF-1000XM3 earphones are not classified as sweatproof or waterproof headphones. That said, I’ve used them for light workouts with a bit of sweat in the gym with no problem. You are using bluetooth 5.0 with support for AAC but not aptX.

Note that we expected Sony to bring out the next generation WF-1000XM4, but at this point we may not see them until 2021. Read our Sony WF-1000XM3 review.

It took a while, but now we finally have a new true wireless noise-canceling sports model from Sony: the WF-SP800N. Funnily enough, at the end of my mostly positive review, I wrote that I’d like to see them more in the $ 160-175 range. They had recently dropped to $ 127, but the current price of $ 148 is still $ 50 off the list and $ 20 off their usual street price.

This isn’t quite the WF-1000XM3 with a waterproof case. It lacks Sony’s QN1e processor, but there is still a lot to like, including very good sound, solid noise cancellation, and good call quality. It’s definitely a significant upgrade from the WF-SP700N that came out in 2018, and its “arches” (sport fins) lock the buds in your ears. Just make sure that you close one of the earplugs provided tightly, otherwise both the noise and noise suppression will be poor. Read our Sony WF-SP800N review.

Sony

The WF-XB700 is part of the company’s Extra Bass range and is priced at $ 130. I tried them out and really liked their fit. Their sound quality doesn’t match that of the WF-1000XM3 or WF-SP800N (it lacks some clarity), but if you like bass, they sound decent-sounding earbuds. I found it a little expensive at $ 130. At $ 52 off, or $ 78 – which is their all-time low – they’re a much more tempting option. First, read our Sony WF-XB700 Extra Bass.

Amazon

Sony’s latest noise-canceling headphones are getting $ 50 off Prime Day, and Amazon slipped in a $ 25 gift card to sweeten the deal.

The new WH-1000XM4 has improved voice calling (compared to the WH-1000XM3) and also offers multi-point Bluetooth pairing so you can connect to two devices such as a phone and PC at the same time. That is, if a call comes in while using the headphones with your computer, the sound will be switched to your phone when you answer the call.

The Bose Noise Canceling Headphones 700 are likely still ahead of the curve for voice calls, but the 1000XM4 headphones are arguably a bit more comfortable and have some other improvements in terms of noise cancellation and sound that make this a great all-round choice. When Bose launched its new flagship Noise Canceling 700 Headphones, it didn’t drop the QuietComfort 35 II from its headphone lineup, and this is still a top of the line noise-canceling model. While I think the 700 does better overall, there are people who prefer the QuietComfort 35 II.

While the QuietComfort 35 II retails for $ 350, it is typically available for $ 300 or less. However, $ 199 is roughly the lowest price we’ve seen for it. It’s also available from Best Buy. Read our Bose QuietComfort 35 II review.

Amazon’s Echo Buds sound decent, are good for making phone calls – they feature Bose noise cancellation technology – and have hands-free Alexa for issuing voice commands without pressing any buttons. I thought they were a little pricey at $ 130, but much more tempting at $ 80, especially after some firmware upgrades that improved their performance. Read our Amazon Echo Buds review.

Sony

If you can’t afford Sony’s WH-1000XM4, the company’s entry-level WH-CH710N noise-canceling headphones have dropped to $ 88 after hitting $ 100 recently. They don’t offer the sound quality, build quality, or noise-canceling performance of Sony’s 1000X models, but they are good value for money for $ 88. I don’t think they have a list price of $ 200, however.

The standard AirPods with the wired charging case sold for $ 125 on Amazon. But for Prime Day, the price is $ 115, which means an additional $ 10 savings. I’d love to see them cost $ 99, but that’s about the best price you’ll see for the standard AirPods. The Airpods with the wireless charging case are available for $ 150 (they cost $ 200, but they also sell for less).

Microsoft’s Surface Headphones 2 noise-canceling phones were released earlier this year. The biggest change from the predecessor is the price: the original Surface Headphones are $ 350 while the Headphones 2 are $ 250 – and Amazon now has them for $ 200 for Prime Day.

While they lost their hands-free functionality for Cortana voice control (a change no one will complain about) and the sound quality hasn’t improved (it’s pretty good, but not great), the combination of a few small design tweaks provides better battery life. An upgraded bluetooth and the new lower price will help improve the rating and make it more recommendable.

Thanks to the multi-point Bluetooth pairing function, you can pair them with two devices (e.g. a computer and a phone) at the same time and quickly switch the sound from each device to the headphones. This is a nice feature from a work from home standpoint that also works well for making voice calls. Read our Microsoft Surface Headphones 2 review.

The Sony WH-XB900N is similar to the Sony WH-1000XM4. However, it’s not that fancy and doesn’t offer the same sound quality and noise-canceling performance, although it shares some of its features in common. But if you’re into bass, there is enough – after all, it’s Sony Extra Bass Headphones. It’s also comfortable headphones with decent noise-canceling features. We saw the price drop to around $ 150 during last year’s Christmas buying season, so $ 123 is a good price. Read our Sony WH-XB900N review.

Beats’ Powerbeats Pro list is priced at $ 250, but typically retails for $ 200. These earbuds are priced at $ 175 for Prime Day, which is about as low as we’ve seen them. Note that only the black and white models are available for $ 175.
