Triller targets TikTok with additional influencers like Charli D’Amelio and Addison Rae – TechCrunch

Although Triller has often positioned itself as a different type of app than TikTok, the company has continuously worked to incorporate the same influencers that made TikTok so popular. TikTok star Josh Richards recently joined Triller as an investor and chief strategy officer, even though he was only 18, for example. Other TikTok stars, Noah Beck and Griffin Johnson, also came to Triller earlier this summer.

And just this week Triller caught TikTok’s queen Charli D’Amelio, whose current TikTok account has 87 million followers.

“I think we will always shine more than your traditional status updates – which I think has done the world of Facebook, Instagram and Twitter really well,” he said. But today’s users “really don’t publish creative content on these old platforms anymore,” he continued. “They actually post them on platforms like us, where they’re looking for an expressive and creative outlet.”

Lu claimed Triller also benefited from attempting by older social networks to enter the short-form video room.

When Instagram launched its TikTok competitor Reels, Triller saw usage increase by 20%, Lu said.

“We found that a lot of users waiting for roles saw what it was. And they decided to stick with Triller, ”he said.

On business matters, Lu declined to discuss recent reports of the alleged billion dollar valuation, but confirmed that Triller is in the process of raising funds. He also declined to talk about the status of Triller’s reported $ 20 billion offer at Centricus for TikTok assets, but said the company would have been a good home for content from TikTok creators from an infrastructure standpoint.

With Triller’s potential growth amid TikTok concerns, it wasn’t surprising that Lu also supported the idea that TikTok could pose a security threat to US users.
