Ahead of today’s Ubisoft Forward presentation, we saw a couple of leaks that suggested the company was preparing to announce a remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Sure enough, when the show finally started, Ubisoft revealed just that, and announced that the remake would land early next year. We also had the opportunity to see the game’s revamped graphics in the announcement trailer, which can be seen embedded below.
Interestingly, despite the fact that Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time was dated January 21, 2020 and will not be rolled out on next generation consoles. Today, Ubisoft confirmed that the game will be available through the Epic Games Store, the Ubisoft Store and UPlay + on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. However, the company has said that this remake will be playable on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 through backward compatibility, so at least there is.
Definitely, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time was a big deal when it first released in 2003. The game served as a restart for that Prince of Persia Series (which dates back to 1989) and began The sands of time Trilogy that also included Warrior within and The two thrones. Maybe we’ll see remakes of those when The Sands of Time hits the shelves?
The details of this remake are pretty small at the moment, but Ubisoft says it will include “updated battles and puzzles, plus new graphics, camera angles, and recorded performances.” So it sounds like it’s a fundamental remake of the original. The company also says players can unlock the original Prince of Persia Game from 1989 over time The sands of time.
By ordering the game, players will receive the “Back to the Origins” set, which includes the original weapons and the outfit that the prince wore in the 2003 title. Pre-orders apparently also contain a “classic filter that changes the appearance of the game”. We will let you know when Ubisoft shares more information about Prince of Persia: The Sands of TimeSo stay tuned.
