Ubisoft has been hinting at another Splinter Cell game for several years without ever confirming that one is actually coming. Now we have still no confirmation, but with the kind permission of Ubisoft Spain we have another social media post.
Ubisoft Spain has this week released a picture of the Splinter Cell protagonist Sam Fisher in his legendary night vision goggles on Twitter, along with a short Spanish caption. When translated, the headline reads, "You must understand the darkness to face it."
There is not much price on genuine Splinter Cell Art. On the Internet, however, there is hope that this will lead to a bigger announcement.
The post did not appear in the Twitter feeds of other Ubisoft regions ̵
It's worth noting that this is not the first rumor from Splinter Cell that we've seen lately; Already in early 2018, fans were amazed by a listing on Amazon Canada that led to nothing, while Division 2 Julian Gerighty tweeted (via PCGamesN) earlier this year that he was working on the next Splinter Cell to later call her a joke to be dismissed. In July 2019 it was even reported that Facebook is trying to secure a Splinter Cell VR game for its Oculus headsets.
So far, none of these rumors has led to any official announcement. However, Splinter Cell remains one of Ubisoft's most popular franchisees, and CEO Yves Guillemot said in earlier interviews (via Gamersky) that the publisher still has plans for the brand.
Considering all this, it's hard to tell if this is the case A specific post is something that needs to be taken seriously, or is it just another case where Ubisoft teases the franchise for fun and the fans reminded that it holds their future happiness in the context of Splinter Cell in the hands.
There are some major gaming events this year, such as The Game Awards, which could be an ideal place for Ubisoft to make an announcement if one is actually to be made. At this point, it's all about looking, waiting and hoping.
