In an embarrassing mistake, the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) confiscated 2000 OnePlus Buds earphones and mistook them for “fake” Apple AirPods.
CBP officials seized the Nevada-based Hong Kong shipment at New York’s JFK Airport, claiming in a press release that the earbuds would have been worth $ 398,000 if they were “real.”
“CBP officers protect the American public from various dangers on a daily basis. The interception of these counterfeit earbuds directly reflects the vigilance and commitment of our CBP officers to mission success, ”said Troy Miller, director of CBP’s New York Field Operations.
The only problem – although they looked similar to AirPods, this one were real earbuds: specifically OnePlus Buds, which retail for $ 79 and were released this year along with the Chinese maker̵
OnePlus USA reacted quickly to the tweet from CBP in which the “bust” was announced.
Hey give them back! 🙃
