Only today vivo brought the vivo V20 onto the Indian market. Priced at INR 24,990 and INR 27,990 for the 8 / 128GB and 8 / 256GB variants respectively, the vivo V20 seems great value for money, but we will now have the opportunity to try and check out whether this is actually the case.
The device comes with all the accessories you could want – a 33W charger, USB-A to USB-C cable, USB-C headphones, and a free silicone case.
The phone has a 6.44 inch 1080p AMOLED display which makes the V20 a very compact phone. The slim 7.4 mm case and the reasonable weight of 1
vivo worked hard to ship the V20 with Android 11 already running. In fact, the entire Funtoch OS 11 feels very pixel-like, with icons close to the inventory, a standard menu, Google’s standard keyboard, and features exclusive to Android 11 like conversations, bubbles, notification history, nearby sharing, and the stock focus mode.
vivo has added some of its apps such as the Game Sidebar with 4D game vibrations, the Stock Gallery app, FM radio, iManager, Compass and the Voice Recorder.
The AMOLED display is beautiful with good brightness and nice colors and contrasts. The fact that it’s barely curved on the sides (2.5D is the preferred marketing term) is refreshing, however the side bezels are a bit thick and take away some glamor from the device.
We found the built-in optical fingerprint scanner to be quick and very accurate. It works with a simple tap, without pressure, despite the pre-installed plastic screen protector.
The back has the now-branded gradient finish from vivo. It goes from dark gray to silver and even blue under some light. The matte surface feels great and doesn’t attract fingerprints as quickly as a glossy finish. The side-mounted power switch is structured and makes it easy to place with a finger.
The cameras are an important selling point of the vivo V20. The 64-megapixel main snapper combines 4 pixels into one for 16-megapixel snapshots. The 64-megapixel main shooter has the double task of a 2x telephoto camera. The other two sensors are an 8MP ultrawide and a 2MP depth camera. A 44MP selfie camera is built into a small notch. We have included some preliminary examples that you can see below, but we reserve our judgment for our full review.
