“As the number of confirmed cases in communities across the country has increased recently, the number and type of mandates for face covering have also been implemented,” wrote Walmart COO Dacona Smith and Sam’s COO Lance de la Rosa club in a press release from Wednesday. “At the moment, about 65% of our more than 5,000 shops and clubs are located in areas where there is some kind of government mandate for facewear.”
Walmart will place signs and employees labeled “Health Ambassadors” in front of the store entrances to remind buyers to wear a mask.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, COVID-19 mainly spreads through breath droplets that occur when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or speaks. These droplets can then get into other people’s mouths or noses, or inhaled into the lungs. The CDC recommends that everyone wear a fabric face cover in public, especially when other social distance measures cannot be practiced to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
