What we can expect at MWC 2020
This year's fair promises a wealth of new smartphones and a wide collection of other mobile devices. What should you pay special attention to? Let's start with an overview of the devices that are most likely:
- Samsung Galaxy A-series
- Sony Xperia 2
- Sony Xperia 5 Plus
- LG V60 ThinQ
- Huawei Mate Xs
- Honor View30 Pro
- Honor 9X Pro
- Xiaomi Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro
- Nokia 8.2 5G, Nokia 4.3 and Nokia 5.2
- Motorola Edge or Edge Plus
- Oppo Find X2
- Vivo Apex 2020
The smartphones that we are unlikely to see at MWC because they are more likely to be revealed at separate launch events before or after MWC 2020 include:
- Huawei P40 and Huawei P40 Pro
- Samsung Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S20 Plus
- Samsung Galaxy Z Flip
Let us take a closer look at the hardware exhibited in Spain this year.
At MWC 2020, 5G will be on everyone's lips MWC in recent years, and it's unlikely that much will change at this year's show. Aside from the fact that this time the focus is not on network hardware, there will likely be a lot more 5G smartphones. We assume that most manufacturers will present a 5G version of a smartphone at the fair. Further 5G calls will inevitably come from the most important chip manufacturers, be it Qualcomm, MediaTek or Huawei.
Samsung at MWC 2020
Samsung has not announced a major press conference on MWC 2020 and will instead be unveiling its first flagship smartphone of the year at a separate event held in San Francisco on February 11. Here we meet the Galaxy S20 series and almost certainly the next Samsung folding phone, the Galaxy Z Flip.
The company always has a strong presence at the show anyway, and last year showed a pair of A-series smartphones for the first time, along with the Galaxy Tab S5e tablet. Continues of these devices or other new models could potentially arrive at MWC 2020. There may also be new wearables, a new Galaxy Watch or new fitness bands. Top executives are always present, so further company news or updates to the latest phone sharing plans are certainly possible.
Google at MWC 2020
Google typically takes over one of MWC's expansive outdoor spaces where it shows its products and software in real-world scenarios. In recent years, collectors have walked around the fair and got special Google Pins from the company's partner booths, and we doubt that much will change this year. While new phones like the Pixel 4a are unlikely, Google has previously shown updates to its software, including Google Assistant and Android Go, sometimes in conjunction with new phones from other manufacturers.
Sony at MWC 2020
Sony has scheduled a press conference for February 24th at 8:30 am local time, 2:30 am ET. A livestream will also be available. A new version of the existing Xperia 5 has been spotted in some leaks currently known as Xperia 5 Plus, and there is also potential for a new flagship called Xperia 2. This could be Sony's first 5G smartphone and the first, that combines the new network technology with a 4K resolution screen if the rumors are true.
LG at MWC 2020
Rumor has it that LG will launch the LG V60 ThinQ. Like the G8X ThinQ, the V60 comes with a second display case accessory, although the hinge appears to have been redesigned. While the G8X ThinQ is usually quirky and the second screen is in use, the distance between the two screens adversely affects the viewing experience. Hopefully LG has revised this aspect for this new version.
When you wait for a LG G9 message, don't hold your breath. The series may have ended and LG will instead focus on using the V-series name. Leaks that are referred to as LG G9 can represent the LG V60, for example. At the time of writing, LG has not yet announced a press conference for MWC 2020.
Huawei at MWC 2020
At MWC 2019, Huawei delighted us with the Mate X folding smartphone, a breathtaking device that went in a different design direction than the Samsung Galaxy Fold. While the Mate X has since been launched in China, it has not been offered for sale elsewhere. Two MateBook Windows laptops were also launched.
For MWC 2020, it is not clear what the company plans to do due to ongoing problems with the US government. The half-confirmed improved version of the Mate X, the Huawei Mate Xs, is delivered with the new Kirin 990 processor, but exactly what will happen to the alleged Huawei P40 remains uncertain. The Huawei P30 was launched in France last March. However, there is always the possibility that Huawei decides to launch the new phone at MWC.
Honor at MWC 2020
Honor will hold a press conference on February 24th at MWC 2020 to introduce a host of new products. At the top is the Honor View 30 Pro, which has already been announced in China. The 5G phone has a 6.57-inch screen, the Kirin 990 processor and a triple lens camera on the back. Honor's other announcement will be the Honor 9X Pro, another phone already on display in China, and a higher version of the existing Honor 9X. In addition, the recently released special editions of the MagicWatch 2 smartwatch and two Honor MagicBook laptops will be released.
Like Huawei, Honor also suffers from the US government's trade ban. So we are not sure which Android version is installed on the Honor View 30 Pro and indicates whether the Google Play Store will be installed or not.
Nokia at MWC 2020
HMD Global takes MWC very seriously and has shown many exciting phones in the past – from The 8110 4G for Nokia 9 PureView – and for MWC 2020, rumors suggest the launch of several new phones , The Nokia 8.2 5G may use Qualcomm's Snapdragon 765 5G processor and has a pop-up selfie camera, while Nokia 5.2 has a 6.2-inch screen and 16-megapixel camera has Nokia 1.3 phone and the arrival a new series called Nokia Originals. This may be due to the revision of classic Nokia models like the 8110 4G. Finally, the name Nokia 9.2 PureView was rumored, but specifications or the date of announcement have not yet been discussed.
Motorola at MWC 2020
Motorola will hold a press conference on February 23, just before the doors open, but it is not entirely clear which device will be announced. There has been speculation that the company will launch a flagship phone with high-end specs in 2020. It could also be called Motorola Edge or Edge Plus but there is very little to do at the moment. In addition, the Motorola G8 may also be introduced, and there are also rumors of a Motorola phone with a stylus.
Realme at MWC 2020
Realme, a smartphone company that impressed us with the X2 Pro last year, an event will take place during MWC 2020. The event takes place on February 24th and 5G is their theme. In some regions, a 5G phone called X50 5G is already sold, which could be re-launched for an international launch, or a new model with different specifications is offered.
Xiaomi at MWC 2020
Rumors Say This MWC 2020 is a big show for Xiaomi, which is benefiting from its success in Asia by taking the European market by storm with affordable high-spec smartphones. Huawei and Honor in particular are affected by the US ban. The company may launch the Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro phones at MWC 2020.
TCL at MWC 2020
We already know what TCL is launching at MWC 2020 as it teased the new TCL 10L, TCL 10 Pro and TCL 10 5G phones at CES and told us all the details would be announced on the February show. It won't stop there either, and other mobile devices – some of which may not fall into the smartphone category – will also arrive at MWC 2020. We also hope for a TCL folding smartphone.
Oppo at MWC 2020
Oppo, another Chinese smartphone manufacturer that is currently making waves in Europe, is expected to be represented at MWC 2020 with at least one new smartphone. Rumor has it that the Oppo Find X2 is the first officially available smartphone with an Oppos selfie camera under the screen for an elegant look. Oppo previously said there would be a phone with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor inside in the early months of 2020, and this could be the Find X2.
Oppo has been teasing a foldable phone for some time and recently said: A smartwatch could also come in the future.
Vivo at MWC 2020
As one of the most exciting Chinese smartphone brands, Vivo will again be represented at MWC 2020 with something new. In the past, quiet prototypes of phones and hardware have been revealed, and it is rumored that there will be another concept phone for this show. How the phone will look at the moment remains a mystery. Based on previous experiences with Vivo, it will certainly be exciting.
Microsoft at MWC 2020
Microsoft may have more about the Surface Duo phone / tablet / foldable and talked about the HoloLens 2 at the show last year. Don't expect anything from Apple though, as MWC doesn't have hardware. However, a March event is often announced at the time of the MWC. So listen to news about it.
We will keep up to date with the latest MWC 2020 news and announcements. So check back regularly for the latest information on the Mobile World Congress 2020.
