I’ll get this out of the way at the top: World of Warcraft spoilers are below.
Okay, this is an emotional moment for World of Warcraft players: the best bear in the game just bit the dust.
In particular, Ursoc, a demigod of the great bear who was one of the first living things to roam Azeroth, has died. Right this time. In my opinion.
It turns out that his soul crouched after the “long sleep” after the nightmare veil loosened from Ursoc during the Legion expansion. As detailed in the new video below, Ursoc̵
But when the grove around him dies, Ara’lon must decide whether to keep Ursoc’s soul alive or to sacrifice his wild seeds to save the lives of others in the forest.
Ara’lon decides to sacrifice Ursoc for the common good. He asks Ursoc for forgiveness when he pulls the anima out of his semen and lets it crumble in the dust. Sad times.
So that’s it for poor old Ursoc. I remember him best from the Grizzly Hills: Ursoc, the Bear God quest chain that I really enjoyed (circa 2008’s Wrath of the Lich King). Here you investigate the collapse of the Vordrassil World Tree and, in the end, discover that the Furbolgs resurrected Ursoc, but the tree’s corruption drove both them and the bear insane. You defeat Ursoc and purify his mind.
That was – * grimaces * – 12 years ago. Now, ahead of Shadowlands’ release, Blizzard has Ursoc in. World of Warcraft players say goodbye and mourn Azeroth’s best bear.
Ursoc, you can finally rest … by r / wow
Well At least we still have Ursol, Ursoc’s twin brother, right?
