It has now been confirmed that the Xbox Series S will not support Xbox One X enhancements when playing Xbox One games, but will instead load the Xbox One S version of the game and then apply its own enhancements.
This was first reported by Digital Foundry, which determined that the Xbox Series S is unlikely to be able to support Xbox One X enhancements because it has less memory than the Xbox One X.
These improvements include Xbox One and Xbox 360 titles that have been updated to support higher resolutions up to 4KB, HDR support, faster frame rates, and improved texture filtering on Xbox One X.
In a statement to VGC, Microsoft confirmed that it would: “In order to provide the highest quality backward-compatible experience that is in line with the original intent of the developer, the Xbox Series S runs and applies the Xbox One S version of backward-compatible games with an improved texture of filtering, higher and more consistent frame rates, faster loading times and Auto HDR. “
Obviously, games should still run better than the Xbox One S, as specs on the Xbox Series S have obviously gone up.
