You can now publish the funky 3D photos from Facebook without portrait mode

The funky 3D photos from Facebook will soon be much more accessible. The company introduced the feature back in 2018, using depth data from your phone's portrait mode to give your images a nifty parallax effect. It has helped images burst when scrolling through your news feed, and although it's a gimmick, it's still pretty cool. The problem was that it only worked if you had portrait mode turned on for that particular image.

This is no longer a restriction. Facebook can now create 3D images without using your phone's portrait mode. Instead, the company uses AI to calculate depth ̵

1; a method similar to Google's to take photos in portrait mode – so no second lens or special portrait mode is required. This also means that it can work with different subjects like paintings.

In other words, expect 3D photos to become much more popular as the feature becomes available to more users. However, the feature is not yet available on every phone, probably because Facebook wants to optimize the technology for every device. The function should work on iPhone 7 or higher and on newer Android devices in the medium to high price range.

In addition to allowing more devices to access it, you don't have to worry about taking a portrait photo in the first place. I forgot to use portrait mode all the time, so I'm happy with the change.

To learn more about how the feature works, you can visit Facebook's AI blog at the following source link. where the company details the technical aspects behind the function.
