YouTube users encounter fake and dangerous videos

In its best form, YouTube is a great resource for people. According to Pew, 87 percent of respondents said that YouTube is important in learning how to do new things. This benefit reached all age groups: more than half of users aged 18 to 29 and 41 percent of respondents aged 65 and over said they had used YouTube to learn new skills wildly. Pew found that three out of five people encounter videos that show people in dangerous or troubled situations. Two-thirds of respondents said they sometimes found false or untrue videos. 1

5 percent found these videos frequently. This is a real problem for a platform that is becoming a news source for many visitors. 53 percent of YouTube users told Pew that the site was at least a bit important to understanding what's happening in the world.

YouTube has been bothering on its platform for some time disturbing, problematic content. The platform came under fire earlier this year as a top-trend video promoted a conspiracy theory about the students who were victims of the mass shooting of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida. The platform was also rife with disturbing videos aimed at children who surfaced earlier this year.

When asked for YouTube, YouTube gave a summary of its ongoing efforts to control any content that violates the terms. For example, the company said it removed more than 17 million videos in the first half of 2018 that violated the guidelines, with the majority being identified by machine learning systems. YouTube also stated that it has added features that cover credible news sources, especially at major events. This second item was announced in July as part of a $ 25 million investment.
