Zen Mode 2.0 now works with older OnePlus devices

Late last year, OnePlus made its mesmerizing mindfulness-focused Zen mode app a standalone option for users with compatible hardware. With OxygenOS 11, the Zen Mode 2.0 app was redesigned with the rest of the system’s UI, but was not compatible with older OnePlus hardware running Android 10 or lower.

With an update, older OnePlus devices with OxygenOS 10 (based on Android 10) can download and install Zen Mode 2.0 and receive a comprehensive overhaul of the user interface compared to the original builds (via XDA). It’s not just a visual overhaul as the OxygenOS 11 Zen mode also has some new features, including a multi-person feature that allows you to pair up with friends to avoid using the phone.

Think of Zen Mode 2.0 as a way to properly detoxify your phone rather than giving you app limits. It actually forces you to actively avoid using your OnePlus phone for a preset period of time.

The only downside is that if you couldn̵

7;t download Android 10 on your OnePlus device, you won’t be able to download and install Zen Mode 2.0 on your device. In both cases, here is the update changelog for the latest 2.0 build according to the Play Store:

Welcome to the redesigned Zen mode!

1. Adding a variety of themes to give you a more immersive meditation experience
2. You can create a room and invite your friends to join you to start a Focus Challenge together
3. Record the daily zen moments and review the journey of focus

In some ways, I feel like Zen Mode and Zen Mode 2.0 could actually be better than Google’s own digital wellbeing. I say this because it actually actively prevents you from using your device – save phone calls and camera functions. I think this will help teach you that you don’t necessarily have to be connected to your phone 24/7.

If you have a compatible OnePlus smartphone with Android 10, you should now be able to download the Zen Mode 2.0 update from the Google Play Store.
